Format Information:

Database Format: This format allows a user to search the text version of multiple papers at one time. Pictures and advertising are not available. Using the database format a user could, actually browse any paper of their choice, but for this trial we have chosen a few papers to provide direct links for browsing. Any of the 1000 full-text newspapers available in the database format could be offered with a text browse link.

Image Format: NewsBank offers almost 200 different newspapers in a full image format. For this trail we have selected 5 papers which can be viewed in this format. The image format allows users to browse or search a full image format of the newspaper. Unlike the database or text versions, the image format allows users to see the actual newspaper complete with pictures, and advertising. Each page looks exactly like it did in the hard copy of the paper.

Text Browse Format: This format allows a user to browse an issue of the text version of the paper. Like the database format, pictures and advertising are not available. Using the database format a user could, actually browse any paper of their choice, but for this trial we have chosen a few papers to provide direct links for browsing. Any of the 1000 full-text newspapers available in the database format could be offered with a text browse link.

Database Details:

Access World News: The database, Access World News, is a one stop access point to search the text (images and advertising are excluded) of over 700 newspapers from across the United States. Internationally, the database includes about 300 full-text newspapers and selected article coverage from an additional 500 sources.

The database includes an archive that goes back many years for each paper, but the actual archive depth varies from paper to paper.

Users can search the entire database by topic or keyword or can focus their search geographically or limit it to certain newspapers. The database also will allow user to narrow down to browse individual newspapers.
